5 easy, mid-spring outfit pick-me-ups

The Row silk shirt (it’s a great shape and even better stripe, but the shape and weight of this from Matteau is really good too), All Three waist belt, Siedres orange pants, Soeur sandals (these from Polo are in the same spirit. Bizarrely drawn to these for short bottoms too)

There’s a feeling of excitement and newness when the markings of a seasonal change are in progress. There is also much stimulation, which can put you at risk of combustion. Keeping it simple with wardrobe bread and butter (jeans and t-shirts or button downs, in my case), while taking small risks with new expressions via accessory allow me to localize the feeling of excitement without losing the plot completely. For spring (and prob summer) 2026, I’m thinking about:

Wire frame sunglasses

Oliver Peoples sunglasses from TRR (this is the lens, it’s a bit smaller and softer than the classic aviator; these, these, these are great and all on super sale. These are a slightly different thesis, but how to say no?), Maragua Studio poncho (an alt from Etsy), vintage ripped jeans (these are based on them!!),

Khaite sunglasses (like this shape too, love this one; but more on wireframes below), Versace button down (I think a fitted silk or crinkled b-down will best capture its spirit; dropping in her, from Attersee, too), Maccapani baby tee, extremely perfect pants from The Row (think I found the best alt for my Alex Mill cargos, btw), Havaianas slingback thongs, Valesque bag (love the big guy too)

From left: Khaite sunglasses, Oliver Peoples sunglasses (on TRR mannequin; more pairs for you here, here, here), Soeur sunglasses (these from Jimmy Fairly are a close comp), Oliver Peoples sunglasses. Here’s one more from Miu Miu, and if you’re feeling freaky…!!!

Mostly because they are a more delicate way to complement an outfit, so they give you permission to get more bold with your clothes: colors, shapes, layers. I love them styled with wild hair too.

The long strand of pearls here reflect a perfect segue into item no.2 —

A long strand of beads

A pearl necklace from Ileana Makri’s ‘Globe Trotter’ collection; you can find one similar, shorter strand on the men’s side of MyTheresa, but these from Toteme are one of the better modern reinforcements at market. Sophie Buhai knows what she’s doing too. Of course, there is always Etsy. Here is a nice western belt (I love her too!!!), and here is the bag (have a look at this sequined Bode tote, on the men’s side of NAP)

Rest of the look: Soeur top, Khaite jeans, and here are our flat sandals for the season; one more bag option for you here (or two; this is a different vibe, but…what a vibe)

One more time with a column skirt. Los Angeles Apparel baby tee, Linnea Pelle belt, Dear Frances sock boots. What starts here with long beaded necklaces will, I feel strongly, become usher in the era of door knockers.

Just as white beads are a great way to break up dark colors in an outfit, black beads can ground light colors. Got to drop this alternative belt in one more time. Some necklaces at market for you here:

I personally love what a long strand of pearls does to a baby tee or a tube top, or how it breaks up dark colors, orrrrrrr, if it’s something like the collage-d blue strand of evil eyes, they can serve as breakthrough point —

Generally speaking, I think this accessory impulse reflects what I’m discovering as a summer-long inclination towards a shrunken (baby) tee or tube top. An example of the work in progress, ppl!!

Speaking of that tube…

A tank (or tube) — exposed shoulders and boots

Beaufille butterfly tank, Aflalo jeans, Gabriela Hearst cowboy boots. Per the doorknockers: this look could have used these, no?

My racquet string bracelets here (you can get with or without dangling string, but I recommend with!), loving a Valentino chain these days too. And how many more delectable novelty bags can I show you? (Vintage Ungaro! Vintage Bottega! Valentino.)

Tube top and long beads in action with a Rue de Verneuil tote, column skirt, summer appropriate boots (Dear Frances) and a Fortuny scarf worn the Bassette way; sunglasses are Thistles, wouldn’t say no to these for $20, and fyi, I found Miu Miu’s Regard with a mirror lens on sale here.

Here is possibly my favorite of the ways the wear a tank and boots with a Magda Butrym dress (that feels very Prada; she comes short too; love this vintage Carolina set as an alt, or this electric slip dress), and Prada boots (thank you to whoever wears a 36.5 and sold these on TRR! Many ways to slice this one (as evidenced above) but I felt the expression of going bare on top and really anchoring down below come in hot towards the end of last summer, when I was all hopped up on the old west coming back in fashion. Nothing new necessary here! Just a trusty sleeveless something (love the durability of a Flore Flore tank, but All Three’s ‘Claire’ is my all-time pick) and your favorite (cowboy?) boots.

A non-whimsical statement belt

What is having a better decade than belts? This expression is a transition hit for two reasons. The first:

Nothing breaks up simple jeans and a tee better. And if you’re wearing a double serving of white, leather also anchors the lightness. Which relates to reason no. 2–

All of our fabrics are about to get soooo lightweight. A solid leather belt will do good job grounding them. (And giving them better context when they are kind of out there, like in the instance of 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻these orange pants.)

Shoes to sexify your sexless clothes

Because what’s coming for us is the summer of nasty — sweaty and messy and naked in glory, but it would be cookoo bananas to abandon the wardrobes we’ve cultivated over the last decade and change. A wild pair of shoes could throw off kilter even the most unbecoming capri pants, so give them a shot.

Last thing I’ll include which wasn’t technically planned, but which I’ve found myself wearing a lot:

The Row silk shirt; Toteme makes a similar one (less expensive), as does Aflalo (even less), and here is one more from La Ligne. I like a stripe, but Comme Si has a simple, slightly cropped option that I think would look great with big pants. And the wire frames return!

Silk shirts styled as jackets over shrunken t-shirts or tanks with lightweight pants, or when it’s 80 degrees like it got to be last week, tiny shorts and/or mini skirts.

Rest of outfit includes this tank top (Flore Flore’s Hillie tank is also a good underlayer) and a vintage Miu Miu skirt (it’s good to know she’s consistent). I like this from Mango for the same effect or this for something more on the nose summer. A portmanteau is this.

The shirts specifically have to be silk so they flow and it’s better when the tee/tank hugs your form. Kind of like dressing for the beach, but not.
