Express Lane Outfit Idea: A good alternative to denim cut-offs

A new franchise I’m trying: Express Lane Outfit Idea, where I deliver an outfit idea — no long form explainer attached — with information about each of the garments I’m wearing. For the first edition, here is an outfit you could wear if you’re sick of denim cut offs and don’t want to wear shorts at all in fact, but do still want to look laid back.

So laid back that you may as well be laying down. In pajama pants.

These (the pants) are from Doen, I tried to find a pair with a peplum hem (inspired by an outfit I saw a woman wearing at the Guggenheim in June) from Etsy but ultimately failed, although these vintage ones did just show up.

These are an accurate comp silhouette-wise, and especially work if you’re up for having an Eiffel Tower on your legs (why not?). A drawstring is good if you’re going to tuck your shirt in, but it’s actually easier not to have one (meaning: opt for the elastic waist band, no strings attached) if you plan to wear your top out. The metaphors here are vast — run wild!

The ribbed top is from St. Agni; an open chest knit that’s collared is comfortable like a t-shirt but more fancy, like a button down. Not sure how well this one would work on a larger bust, but this one from Mango might work. This one, too, from Katimo.

The necklace is from Gimaguas — I’m sure you can find a version from a million different places — here are three of my top picks: Eliou for a thicker disc, Roxanne Assoulin for something more dainty and here is the budget option. These are so much fun too. A turtle!

It’s easier than you might think to summon the same energy of this shoe by simply wearing a flip flop the same color of your skin. I really like these from Aeyde, these (more expensive) from Gianvito Rossi and people are nuts about Tkees (if you get them, go for these).
