It could be the fall of many things, loafer heels just one among them. I’m also completely seduced by these pants Becky highlighted (and recommended to buy 1x oversize) in her letter last week, the way these Neous shoes look against Laura Reilly’s Auralee jeans, and the possibility of a collarless silk antique blouse styled with a low rise straight skirt, though I’d probably add pants under it to style with the sheer tights/sock and textured black shoes.
But then again, you might want to take what I say these days with a grain of salt. I forget how distorted your vision becomes when you’re newly postpartum. One of the reasons why, I think, is because you’re home most of the time, unexposed to the ways real people are dressing.
It’s not as easy to pick up on the collective energy —to sip in what tastes good and spit out what does not. I realize this is the reason winters get tough for me too: sitting home in a silo makes it impossible to engage in my favorite past-time: absorbing the nuances of the culture IRL. What you pick up in physical presence as opposed to online is so much richer.
Anyway, I got on a bus earlier this week and rode it down to 59th street then walked back home to get a sense of what’s going on out there. Some things started to collapse into order, least not the straightforward recognition that making this newsletter does not feel like work so much as it does a soulful, creative release that connects me to myself. Further too…that I want to wear penny loafers with heels on them.
Fall is always the season of putting yourself back together. It’s the preamble to winter’s bundle up. You want for more structure and refinement, no gimmicks. To feel Ready to Get it All Done.
So I have my eye on these from Miu Miu (which you can find at a slight discount on a site like Cettire or Baltini) right now. A more refined option could be
But I like the slight chunk of the first ones — thinking to wear with pants like these, maybe an oversize knit or something more like this or more structured, actually, like this or you know what? A knit that feels completely different styled under a soft-shouldered something. This or this. The shade of khaki on the Cos one makes such good contrast.
