Letter of Rec #095: What is the least fussy way to say Spring?
Surf-silhouettes, skin tight tops, thongs heels and budding tulips
In top rotation
It still kind of sucks outside in New York, but I won’t deny that the days are brighter. There is a sort of clarity that pierces through the grey, saturating what color bounces out of the tree beds that line the street, budding in all sorts of colors. You really only get that in the Spring.
The veil has been lifted. The trees are getting dressed again in these gorgeous small pink and white petals that freckle out from the branches splintering out of the trunk. This awakening always blows my mind because I forget that from the same dense wood that stands naked but dead-looking all winter long, new life emerges like clockwork this time of year, when Spring comes back around, which it always does. That never stops feeling like a miracle —
Then the daffodils bloom and tulips start to bulb and I really feel ready to flirt.
It takes much less effort to feel genuine uplift when nature starts flexing again. When it starts to turn up some srs looks —

Some things I’ve been wearing a lot:
These knit clogs from Rothy’s, shaped like Birkenstocks, but a little bit softer (because they’re knit). They’re like a gateway drug that now have me contemplating this pair from Marsell.
I’ll also mention these mesh shoes. I thought I was good with them! As in: have the ones I have, need not expand further. Turns out they needed some hardware.
Tory Burch’s ‘Patos’ mesh flats, $378 I called these ones in (fashion speak for “asked to borrow” them) to shoot for a partner story I’m working on with TB (coming to you next week) and have insofar worn them three times. It’s only been two days!
Re: Marsell’s clogs, I’m not sure they will look as good with the rest of the uniform that has accompanied the clogs — including winter’s hit in the form of Callas’ ‘Jules’ pants (worn above; these are worth consideration for the warm weather leisure equivalent), with a washed black t-shirt and Toteme’s suede shirt.
Not getting lost on me that I’m wearing sandals here (which I love too bc they look like I picked them up at the Tucson gem show); this was shot before I’d discovered the coziness of the same look with knit clogs. They are a better foil to — I am finding that a quiet and simple suede over-thing is the easiest, least-amount-of-effort way to feel like you are in the spirit of spring. Even when it rains. (Trench coat.) Some great vintage alts:
