I’ve mostly worn the same 2-3 sweaters (layered over each other) with two pairs of pants (leggings, jeans) with functional shoes or heavy enough boots under an array of coats and personality scarves/hats because it has been so cold in New York, and as is always the case here when you don’t have a fixed place to go everyday, your outerwear coat is your car/the entire outfit. So what’s underneath barely matters —

Which is to say nothing of how you pair your wild coat w a scarf, and a sensible but still opinionated hat/sunglasses
Base layers included a, b
From yday. With masculine bottoms (see also: these), the look needs a more feminine, or at least cropped coat. Just ordered this cutie on sale from Soeur; more for trousers, but I like it in this context, with the fancy boots too (shape of this pair from Larroude reminds me of them). Lila Schaefer hat (could she be an option too? Or these, much more simple, from Toteme are on sale @ The Outnet), And-daughter striped scarf, Carelli coat, Alex Mill carpenter pants (I might try these), Wales Bonner boots (thanks for making me do it, Becky!!!)

But for the 2-3 instances that I have gone to a destination that necessitates disrobing (dinner, game night, etc), I’ve uncuffed my sleeves. Like that is what I have done to count myself as “dressed up.”

It’s a whole different kind of cuffing season out there rn with all the antique robes, replete with fur sleeves that seem to be front of mind in fashion —

Miuccia Prada with Ingrid Sischy some years ago at left, Kate Moss in Conner Ives in Paris like last week

That picture of Kate Moss at right in particular went baby viral on social media after it was taken during couture week. This style of coat has been on my mind too; with this $8,000 version from Chloe having ignited the flame —

But it’s the fur cuff that I find stickiest, and it has been commercially articulated through many recent, more approachable renderings such as:

  • this

  • and this/this

  • this

  • here.

    • conceivably, you can get a solo set of cuffs and add them to any coat/jacket — I love how they look on more of a housecoat, more simply like this (a great price) or thematically, like this —

      • and with the second one in partic, you gotta go w a shoe like this!!!

        • (while we’re looking at jackets I’m also pretty hot on a shape like this/this to style w pants like this; the feminine silhouette nicely offsets the shoes we have to wear in this weather), but I digress…

Loewe and Valentino have been on the front line as far as modernizing this one goes, but I think Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel is what will make it spread out further —

Quicksand!!!! Spring 26 at left, Couture at right

It’s a different take on the elaborate cuff but one that’s more evergreen to be sure.

So this could be part of the reason I myself have been hot on embracing the teeny tiny quadrant of space between my wrist and arm when I get dressed to go out.

Uncuff your sleeves!

But I don’t have many sleeves that follow this principle yet, so my “hack” has been having the cuff of a sleeve hang dramatically out of the jackets (as tops) I layer over them. It’s minimal effort, high impact and I can still wear snow boots. The vibe is:
