Ive been struggling to find the perfect suede jacket with fringes, I guess Im putting to much pressure on it because it will be my first suede with fringes! Also because I’m looking for smt below £500. Can you relate with that interesting frustration when you’ve been going back and forth deciding to buy an item for like months and you just end up not buying then you question the time spent and how much would that time worth:( Please do relate:)

This is what my whole relationship to the real real is like. Used to be yoox. I’d spend hours hunting then look at the clock realize how much time I spent and think oh gosh I have nothing to show for it then think: but am I really going to force myself to buy something right now? And at that point the answer was usually no so I’d log off stand up do a stretch go back to work and pretend it never happened until…the next day

Ahaha I guess we can think of it as we wasted this time not for nothing but learned what we actually don’t like which takes us one step closer to the perfect item? (like dating?) Bc that perfect one thing just makes you feel.. perfect.. That one thing you have where you thank yourself and say “Im so glad I got this this really paid off its price”. I need more of those ‘perfect’ items!

Hahaha, I love the metaphoric underpinning! Although what really is perfect!?

I literally stopped to think what really is perfect. To me; If you can wear it at least 6/7 times a year, does the job, and looks a little more than ordinary. You might think of underwear or socks with this description:) but the last kpi might be that it has to be a little more pricey (?) than what I normally buy because I'm not going to think of something that's very affordable as "perfect" since I don't need to justify it to myself:) Not really sure.

I bought this a month ago:

Last month I literally thanked myself for buying this, it's higher than what I normally pay for a mid-season jacket, but I wore it maybe every day. Im in London and it rained a lot this month but it was not too cold so I wore a thick sweater underneath the shape of the coat was still perfect, it did protect me from the rain, and it's also a little fancy.

Anyways, I think I crossed my limit of thinking about clothes this week :) I thank you for making me laugh at 1 am in bed :)

I love the idea of a personality jacket. I dream of a wardrobe where I am 80% stealth luxe, 20% personality. It would make shopping easy: basic foundational quality then room for fabulous buys like this. Which would probably open the door to vintage

Wouldn’t just make shipping easy, think it would interrupt the cycle altogether. You’d be shopping much less. I get at it towards the end of my last post about quiet luxury but it’s like once the addiction of newness all the time is suffocated you’re left with: woah I can’t believe that addiction was there or you’re trying to fill the space some other way

What would you say the breakdown is in your current wardrobe?

Well Im rethinking the entire thing as Im limiting myself to only 5 new purchases this year (see Rule of 5 substack - we should do an interview on this, love to know your thoughts!). First purchase classy white forever shirt - quiet luxury. Second purchase will be bespoke Alice Temperley embroidered house coat - personality. But basically leading myself up to the point where I can justify investing in The Row...

I loooove suede jackets so much - have about 5 vintage ones! And a great fringe one from eBay. Adore that Khaite but (as ever with that brand) SO expensive

Reason I didn’t add it to the list is because the fringe is a little thicker than my taste but the color is right, shape is good and price is better than the closest contender (Nili Lotan)

yes agree. and I think I prefer the fringe on the back as well. That's why i'm leaning towards the maje version. Everything is right but the blue color feels like a big leap for me. so I'm at a standstill

Check Jamie H webshop. I would live in many of the shoes: loafers, ballerinas, thong sandals especially. The Manolo B style is a favourite as well.

Do you own all those jackets? If so, that’s a wardrobe with deep bench strength l.
