Here’s one for when you’re sick of trousers that look nice in colors like grey or navy or black or white. When none of your jeans, even the most trusted pair, feel “right” — for when you’re bored as fuck but also, you can tell that something in fashion is on the precipice of change and you’re not yet sure exactly what it is but you can smell the hints and they’re like all kinds of citrus.
Call it a good faith rough edge that might make no sense tomorrow — but for today puts a pep in your step.
The equation is simple:
Silhouette you haven’t worn in a long time, but own and hold on to because “you ever know” (skirt)
plus
Trusted companion garment, could be new could be old, that you’ve been wearing a lot lately and routinely gives you that pep (sweater)
plus
New-for-you style cue you’re curious about (knee-high boots)
times
One wildcard, to throw the rest off, like a three-tone jacket in a completely unrelated color.
Footnote: I added the hat because it’s black like the boots but if I want to get sentimental about it, I can also say “it reminds me there’s ground down there.”
The good thing, generally, about getting dressed, is that if it comes to be that you think you look like an idiot, you can always change into something else later. Or just enjoy the misconception — that’s fun sometimes too.
Anyway, here are the credits:
The jacket is from a small brand called Masha Maria. I am really into this blue and yellow one on the site right now, for 380 euros.
The sweater is Maison Margiela. Here’s a relative comp from Molly Goddard on sale for $361 but I think this one from Banana Republic is the closest for $129.
The skirt is Valentino. I’m into mid-length skirts rn, I think it’s a product of wanting to wear more knee-high boots or maybe actually it’s more like I just hate all jeans these days but anyway, this green guy from Ganni for $222 is a great case for the unlikely wardrobe staple. This one is probably not good with boots, but it is in my cart. This one from Batsheva seems like it will take you some place fun and here’s another, maybe the closest comp, on sale for $100. Would be good w the Molly Goddard sweater.
Boots. Boots, boots, boots. They’re probably up next in a million ways to wear — but as a primer: I’m drawn towards these (or) and these. A good comp for the first would be these from Rejina Pyo. For the second, there are these. If you wear a 36, I also found you these.

Please say more about mid-length skirts with boots. I find this very challenging and am not sure why. Thank you. XxxxxPeaches
Love the Batsheva bow skirt- I too have trouble styling longer skirts. Would a black boot be too heavy w this skirt? And what colors would you rec for the deep red?
