That is a wonderful excerpt about resilience. It reminds me of one about courage: Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage in the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow.
hello! i love it when you do these series... also 2 things:
1.I love buying designer menswear paritcularly dries and homme plisse (i source both second hand on vestiare) as they suit me better than the womans versions. My gateway was a few years ago when Dries did a whole mens collection with marble prints - I lost my mind - and have been collecting pieces from that collection ever since and I love wearing them SO much, whereas I really struggle to feel like my self when I wear prints designed for women, dunno why but this works so I do it.
2. can't remeber if it was last year or the year before but you did a version of the newletter but for anoraks as most worn spring outerwear (i am paraphrasing this is from my only very partially functioning memory) ... my point is you were right : I bought an anorak back then and have worn it so so much!(toteme black with the 4 patch pockets in that nylon anorak material) love it so much.
Ladies,if you aren’t 100% sure but want to give this a try, there are loads of vintage LL Bean field coats on eBay and posh in tons of colors. My $50 baby is on the way. A delicious faded chocolate brown.
Love this so much!! I've been wearing my husband's oversize Barbour jacket so much lately, even though it's a bit too cold for it I feel safe and somehow less blah in it. Winter has got me down too--recently moved East from a warm weather place and it is hard. I don't have any solutions except I guess this is why people are "bi-coastal" haha. One can dream...
Btw What's the difference between an anorak and a field jacket?
To beat blas, no outfit is complete without your earbuds and a good playlist. When it's really miserable, I choose music that harsh or bleak, which somehow winds up making me feel happier in a "bring it on!" sort of way (Radiohead, NIN, Soundgarden, for example). On a prettier day like today I'm listening to "60's sunshine pop" with Mamas and Papas, 5th Dimension and Sly Stone. Whatever it takes!
Thank you, Leandra, for your insight as always! YESSSS It's reassuring to know that I'm not alone in feeling a bit hesitant about straying from traditional women's wear. Your encouragement to push through these imposed limitations and explore new avenues is empowering. And you're absolutely right about the potential cost savings and style opportunities with men's designer clothes—it's a game-changer. Here's to breaking free from the confines of old rules and embracing new possibilities!
I was standing in the rain struggling with a car seat the day I read this. I couldn’t find a good yellow on the secondary market in my size so I pulled the trigger on the Brooks Brothers yellow number which my co-worker referred to as a “nice slicker” and it’s giving Gordon’s fish sticks fisherman vibes in the best way possible.
Sooo good! I love a great old barn jacket!!! Is my memory failing or did you not post a reddish one a few weeks ago, that was not high end? Or did it come to me in a dream?! I have tried to find yo no avail. 🙈🤯

Welp, I stuffed my Barbour to the back of the closet a few years ago so thanks for giving me a reason to bring her back out!
Vintage Field Jackets are a plenty. The Wanderly in Toronto had red, beige and Forrest green options lately.

I also saw a good blue option at Uniqlo, it's a much lighter version of all of these but I think it's good...lemme see if I can find it...https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E465469-000/00?colorDisplayCode=62&sizeDisplayCode=004&gad_source=1
Thanks so much for these!

Leabdra are you planning on doing a substack on athletic wear? Like you know running, training, walking that is not lululemon-esque brands?
