Letter of Rec #086: What are you doing about pants these days?
Plus: a marble backgammon board, an infinite spiral to wear on your neck and a swan made of artichoke
I have been working on a jewelry collaboration with the Utah-based brand, Audry Rose, since early last Fall and it launched last week. In it, you’ll find four pieces:
a chunky link bracelet made from teakwood and gold
a square, signet maze ring meant to be worn on the pinky (and to consume the majority of the finger’s circumference)
a pair of chubby huggies I like to wear one at a time in the hole that is positioned between my lobe and cartilage
and a silver necklace that I call the infinite spiral. It’s shaped kind of like an infinity loop (the number 8), with spirals in both square-shaped circles — a nice reminder that a) time is not linear and b) we don’t actually know if it ever ends.
This piece is sold two ways: on a red rope necklace or a silver snake chain like this.
The snake chain version also has diamonds on the pendant, stationed around the red and blue enamel ticks and gives a nice bit of shine/dose of anti-dullness to a winter sweater and trousers.
The brand hosts an annual 20%-off site-wide sale for Black Friday, which launched today, so…there you have it. Do with this information what you will.
Onwards to a few other good things starting with:
Jia Jia’s marble backgammon set. Do you do (as in: give, receive) holiday gifts? It’s not really a tradition in my fam but here’s a good example of something I’d feel good about giving and would love to receive.
1/3 good looking object to leave on coffee table, 2/3 function because it’s a game I like to play and most prominently, 3/3 thoughtful expression bc of what it represents: getting closer to the ppl you love through play. This brand, Jia Jia has a ton of good looking objects for sale in its homeware section. There is a set of onyx vases with my name on them there too but you know what? My interiors taste is changing and what I’m drawn to completely misaligns with what my current place looks like. To this point:
House of Quintana’s pillows and placemats.
It happens every time real winter is on the horizon that subconsciously, I think I start to ready for hibernation by considering some ways my home could serve as a place that provides feedback. What I mean is a place that doesn’t feel like the inside of my head but rather like some inspiring, immersive experience. Is that even actually possible? Hosting friends helps (for a vibe shift! Also brings new energy into the place), so do new pillows on an old couch. They’re basically the homeware equivalent of a floral brooch to your coat, no? These pillows are another impulse that don’t really match the current place. I want for slivers of antique French expression but they make no sense against these multicolor submarine mirrors.
Something is definitely going on at the intersection of fashion and interior design. If 4-5 years ago we reached peak food/fashion coalescence, we are approaching our design era. On Wednesday night of this week, all three forms creative expression joined together at a Neptune Papers (interiors magazine) cover story party at the Tory Burch store in SoHo.
Mind the artichoke swan! I wore a sequined sweater with black pants and had initially styled a crochet dress under it, which I swapped out for a flannel b-down (the same one is referenced a bit further down below).
Feels kind of good to meld 90s grunge and present day holiday party girl. They could be friends, you never know.
Also a good segue perhaps bc are you thinking about holiday dressing?
This is the only new thing on my mind/in my cart. To wear with the same high waist Khaite jeans I always revert to and probably these boots I found under $300 on TRR some weeks ago.
While we’re here, actually, in the realm of clothes, look at the cardigan equivalent to that wild and crazy Bode tee I was talking about a few weeks ago.
And actually, also, what are you doing about pants?
