I love how you feature the style of more mature people in our society. I get continuously inspired by how they dress - I keep seeing so many well dressed ladies in London - their looks are so effortless and untouched by what's trending - I aspire to be like this one day!
Another beautiful post, images capturing the season and the New York state of mind... a place like no other. I absolutely love these on-the-ground images. My favorite is how they blend the Row with the street, nature with concrete, the young with the old, and utility with style. These images inspire, and what makes them fascinating to me in particular is that they hit all senses and nothing feels left out.
When I'm in the city I miss country life; when I'm in the mountains I yearn for the beach, and so forth.
These images give me the feelings that I want to stay exactly where I am, and never leave this spot.
You have a rare gift capturing and holding these feelings for me.
"...it seems like smoking cigarettes is back in style..." I am sorry, I don't understand this. Even if one does not care about public/community health (and cost) in general, what happened to our duty, as parents, to do everything in our power to keep our children from a possible lifelong addiction to nicotine? Why are you, and other fashion influencers/Madewell/Alexa Chung, even suggesting that smoking is "cool" or "in style"? Can you explain to me why it is ok, in this era of knowledge about its health and risk factors, to feature smoking as fashionable or cool?
I'm definitely suggesting it's cool. Making an observation about how much more frequently I have been seeing people on the streets smoking cigarettes. Never have, never will have one myself.
No, not my point either. It is, again, an observation. It sounds like the wording is what bugged you, which I understand, but would far from call the acknowledgement an endorsement.
I appreciate you being willing to engage on this topic. Yes, the wording is troubling. It seems to me that an observation is just that, an observation. "Oh, some people are smoking while stylishly dressed." There is no judgement in the observation. To write that smoking is back in style, like leopard print or sock boots, from your position as an "influencer," suggest (to some) that it is stylish. A teenager, for example, might reason--if Alexa Chung does it and Leandra suggest that it is back in style, perhaps I'll give it a try, it even might be cooler than vaping (the whole big tobacco "point" of vaping was to wean smokers off of cigarettes--wink, wink--and get teens hooked on nicotine). I don't know Leandra, maybe you'll think about this differently when you observe the teenage brain functioning at full irrational force in your household. Smoking kills people every day. How can that be stylish?
She’s noticing that smoking is coming back in fashion. “En vogue”, “of the moment”. Leandra’s target audience is probably not impressionable 14 year olds. Don’t shoot the messenger.
As a former New Yorker, I appreciate this little slice of fall. I've transplanted myself to Maine, home of what I like to refer to as "Flip flops and parkas". I spotted a few people not committing to the season here in your pics as Mainers do for most of the year.
“in which case, the way you wear it feels more like pleasure — a choice as opposed to need” - the coat. Yep that feels like the best way to wear a lovely one! ♥️
So much goodness. I love your eye. It is so influenced by your heart. So many inspirational moments captured that it feels like we are enjoying the walk in NYC on a beautiful fall day! Thank you 🙏
Ah! Thank you for the nudge to go outside on this beautiful weekend and feast on what’s around us on the street. It is a beautiful antidote to the ugliness and darkness out there. ♥️
Leandra-- you should create a perfume called Love and it will smell like Fall in Manhattan ❤️❤️ because that vibe is definitely a thing and indescribably beautiful--- although you came damn close.
Took my breath away. Am reminded of this line from a poem I love:
“I am doing something I learned early to do, I am
paying attention to small beauties,
whatever I have-as if it were our duty
to find things to love, to bind ourselves to this world.”
― Sharon Olds, Strike Sparks: Selected Poems, 1980-2002
I miss NY
Inspiring and joyful! Thank you

I have the same condition! I think it takes knowing it to be able to articulate it and let the yearning just drop to the ground

Got it. It's cool for OTHER people and their children. That clarifies. Thank you.

Calm down.

Wow. I love this. I miss Bill Cunningham every week but this is a treasure.

I heard somewhere that they handed around bowls of cigarettes at an Alexa Chung/Madewell party? And gave each guest a lighter to take home.
Wouldn’t be the first time! I think it’s a 90s nostalgia thing maybe
