When I was in my early 20s I also felt that looking feminine was patronizing, but it was all part of these "flawed" perceptions of femininity and, with time, I've recontextualized skirts and dresses. I think that we can't give that much power to a piece of clothing alone, like a skirt or a dress, but when they're well contextualized in an outfit, it's style, it's fashion, and now it has power and means something..
