And what are your thoughts about galliano in maison margiela? I dont like fashion that much, is all too mass media based, but when I see galliano’s colors and textures and movements I recall the 80’s incredible collections, like Armani’s. And I wonder what happened.

I like Galliano’s Margiela. I love Armani too. Actually did a whole edit on it from the real real (inexpensive, lots of vintage runway) for last Fridays recommendations newsletter, so the timing is funny here. Recently I have been attracted to Galliano’s Dior-of-yore too. Did you ever pay much attention to Emanuel Ungaro? There is a sensibility about all this womenswear which I think is what you’re talking about — for sure you can grasp it from the colors but also the silhouettes and the fabrics. They’re delicate, but strong

I think we just got caught up in the ease of convenience, which is the ultimate luxury here. Our threshold to tolerate anything less than EXTREMELY PRACTICAL has waned. I don’t say it with judgment, but for sure it has impacted what designers believe worth creating

Burn the house down before you can build a new one? I think there is probably an element of that anytime we are entering a period of newness. We have to disassociate from the thing that came before until we’re confidently settled into the future, and then that’s when we can revisit. At least I see it that way!
